How do people do it?

Things I try to do and how I’m doing

Keep up with the housework (This gets harder if I have any other things to do on my days off work – like volunteer at the school)

Work 20 hours a week (I don't try to do this. I do this because I’m paid to)

I try to eat healthy and exercise (I have my good days and my bad - today not so good)

I try to spend quality time with my kids (Doesn't always happen, unless you include watching them play sports)

I try to write at least one chapter a week. (Was good until I finished. Now I’m not sure whether to edit or start writing something else).

I try to blog consistently (I think I’m pretty good at this)

I try to comment on other people’s blogs (Right now I’ve been horrible. I do read your blogs, but I’m just finding that if I can’t think of anything witty to say, I don’t comment).

I try to keep up with all the contests and great articles that people link on their blogs. (Really bad at this right now. I can’t seem to keep up with it all)

I have a twitter and facebook account. (I’ve been really bad at this)

I am so amazed at the people who can do it all. Blog everyday, comment on other people’s blogs, read interesting articles to tell everyone about, enter contests, write 1000 words everyday, tweet, facebook, and basically make friends with people in the writing community all around the world.

Right now I think I’m trying to do too much and unfortunately for me that means I don’t do anything. I’m going to try and stick with blogging, commenting and writing, and hopefully I can still connect with people around the world.

So how do you guys feel? Do you every feel overwhelmed by it all or am I the only one?

You can't do it all. No one can do it all, unless they have superpowers. In which case they are not allowed to write books because I think that gives them an unfair edge in the publishing game. Stupid superpower people.

No one can do it all. If someone looks like they are you can be sure there is something else in there life that is giving in. The kids? The husband? Sleep? Something. Because there are no super heros. :)

Sometimes I feel overwhelmed. It stinks but we just have to figure out what's more important at the moment and shrug the other stuff off.
That's why my husband has a pile of workshirts on the ironing board, because obviously reading blogs is more important to me than ironing. *grin*

We're all in the same boat. Don't take it to heart. Only do what you can and feel comfortable with. If you try and do too much you'll only get depressed that you can't.

As to your writing/editing. Don't edit yet. Leave it sit for awhile and write something new. WIP needs some down time and you need fresh eyes to look at it. I usually take a month to 6 weeks before I edit. Mistakes are easier to find.

I feel overwhelmed by all of the blogs I'm supposed to read. It takes me hours to go through all of them and comment. But it helps me so much in my writing process and it makes me feel like a part of a community, so I can't give it up!

Jessie: I totally agree that no one with super powers should be allowed to write a book.

Tabitha: You're probably right, as I've gone through stages of having kraft diner for supper.

Jessica: I say most things I do are more important than ironing and folding socks.

Piedmont: You always have such great advice and I think I will leave th book for a while.

Aubrie: I try to give myself a time limit to comment on blogs, but I usually get carried away.

Can't do all of that! I try to keep up on blogging but I haven't had anything terribly interesting lately--last week took up all my good ideas there :P

I certainly don't get 1000 written a day, which is something that saddens me. :(

I keep up on Facebook, but that's about it. And my housework leaves something to be desired. I'm normally too tired after I come home from work to want to do anything and I only work five hours a day. This week I get to split that time between two offices too, which means I get to drive all over creation.

I don't really know of many people who do it all. The one or two I do know seem like they're on the edge of a burnout or mental breakdown.

There's no way to do it all. I find I don't do much with Twitter and Facebook. I do blog, but when life gets crazy or I get sick or the people need me computer things are the first to get dropped.

Dara: I know how you feel about working. I only work 2 1/2 days a week and it's a pretty low key job, but the commute zaps the energy out of me.

Lois: I think you definitely have your priorities straight. I find I don't enjoy twitter, probably because I don't get it and it sucks my time.

It really depends on the week.

Sometimes I have it all together and sometimes I'm a complete disorganized mess. :)

Jennifer: Last week was a disaster, so I'm hoping the week will be an all together one.

I'm okay at everything except writing, which I blogged about today, and commenting on blogs. I'm working on that one right now :)

I just do what I can and I'm happy with that.

Paul: I've been horrible at commenting on blogs lately. Trying to be better this week.

Southpaw: That's great advice.

I'm constantly overwhelmed, and the blogging is getting the short end of the stick right now. I'm trying to extend myself a little grace here and there, but when I have a night like tonight - where I can write a blog and read my favorites - I feel the weight lifting from me.

And watching your kids play sports definitely counts! I had friends in high school whose parents NOT ONCE saw them play. My parents would go and cheer for them instead. It made a difference. Trust me... it counts.

Wow - your life is very full and rich with experiences. When I start to feel overwhelmed, I choose the most important 4 or 5 things I want to do that day, and then anything else I accomplish is an extra. But I don't facebook or twitter - I'd rather spend that time writing. Blogging takes up enough time as it is!

Heidi: I know what you mean about having a good night. I need to create more of those for myself. We have a boy who plays on my sons basketball team who we drive everytime. I felt guilty that in all the time my kids have played sports we've only missed two games and both times grandmas or an uncle was there.

Andrea: I like that idea of 4-5 important things. Glad to see someone else not liking twitter.

Oh yes, definitely can get overwhelmed by it all. I preach it's important to take care of you first, but sometimes I don't follow my own advise. I have dreams and I think working hard is what will create those dreams. But it's working smarter not HARDER that is the key!
I do have twitter, and FB but mainly concentrate on blogging. It's the most rewarding!
