Sticking to it

I'm almost done editing. I figure I have about two weeks left.

But....

I got an idea for another book. It's come to me in bits and pieces. First a premise, then a name and a setting. I'm itching to work out a plot.

But....

I only have two weeks left of editing.

So I've decided to stay with the editing, knowing that I have something fun waiting for me.

Do you work on two projects at once or are you a one at a time type a person?

Now for a little nepotism. My sister in law has an awesome voice. It's so awesome that she entered a contest to read the latest Neil Gaiman book. If you have some time to kill she'd love your vote. She's doublen. Here's the link.

Even if you don't vote, it's pretty interesting to hear different voices reading the same excerpt.

Stick to the editing! Stick to the editing! When I'm writing and get an idea though, I do try and spare some times to jot the ideas down and explore it.

I've tried doing more than one project at a time. It didn't go too badly, but generally I just stick to one. I know how you feel though. I have a story I'm revising which is the first of two, the second book I haven't started writing, a seperate project I've started, and a new idea which I'm really excited about!

I've come to learn I'm a one at a time woman. (Sounds funny.)

Seriously though, I'm better to write my future plots and characters, taking tons of notes and concentrating on one project at a time. I tried the other way and it drove me batty.

Keep going with the editing!!! I can only work on one project at a time but if I do get another idea while in the midst of my work, I will open a new doc. and write down the plot, who I might think are the characters, the setting, etc. Just so when I finally get a chance to work on it, I have my initial idea down. Good luck!!

I have worked on more than one MS at a time. But truth is, one always wins out. But it's totally cool that you've already got New Idea going...

now to go hear your sister~ :o)

Well, I "thought" I could do the A-Z challenge and get other things done. I was wrong. LOL

Oh, I'm so familiar with this conundrum. One thing I've found is that I can sometimes bribe myself through the less-exciting-task with the promise of an hour or so to spend on my more-exciting-task.

This is one of my major weaknesses as a writer. I have three novel in progress; one is a completed first draft. I can't make up my mind as to which one to work on since they are all chattering at me. :)

I'm a one book woman. But I have stuff swirling about the next book while revising. I might write a sentence or two down while I take a break from revising. And I do beta read while revising.

Heading off to vote. :-)

I've done two before, but I'm finding that working on one at a time is best (at least for now). =) Good luck to your sister-in-law!

Speaking from experience, when those plot ideas start coming, don't put off writing them down. I remember a time when I was in high school and had decided to dedicate my entire evening to gathering ideas for my latest novel. All through supper and while I was washing the dishes, ideas kept hitting me, and I kept shutting it off, saying, "Later, later." Well, when "later" came, the ideas were gone! I couldn't think of a single one! So anyway, yeah, write down those ideas now before they're lost forever!

I take on too many projects at once, and need to discipline myself to stick with one and finish it! I have a friend that uses a recorder to 'save' his ideas for future projects. That way his ideas are not 'lost forever,' can be saved for later use, and he continues to work on the present project.

I really can't take more than one project at once. For instance the last time I did that, my 2 MCs form the two different books started to swap personalities! LOL. So no. :P
